WiracochapampaThese pre-Incan ruins are located a short distance north of town. They are accessible by a slightly strenuous half-hour walk from the Plaza. These ruins are fun to explore and climb, and offer good views of the surrounding farms and countryside. A trip to Wiracochapampa is a good way to spend half a day.
Every August these ruins are the sight of Waman Raymi, a festival celebrating something that is probably pretty important, but I don’t remember what it is, so I can’t explain anything else about it. The pictures look fairly impressive, though, so you can take that for what it’s worth.
