Obelisco de los Heroes

The obelisk is a memorial located several blocks east of the Plaza, along Jr Sanchez Carrion. It is placed in remembrance of the Battle of Huamachuco, which was a part of the 1883 war between Peru and Chile. Though Peru lost the battle, it became a symbol of Peruvian will and determination. Today the obelisk is surrounded by a small plaza, where many Huamachuquenos gather when they are not working.
